A new higher education center is set to be established in Fiji within the next three years, as the Oceania Institute of Technology (OIT) plans to enhance its educational offerings. OIT, a subsidiary of Oceania Education and Technology Solutions, primarily focuses on vocational education programs aimed at boosting the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.
Chief Executive and Managing Director Hasmukh Lal stated that the institute intends to expand its curriculum significantly, aiming to position Fiji as a prominent international education destination in the near future. Key to this ambition is the development of a state-of-the-art, multi-million-dollar campus in Nadi, though specific details regarding partners involved in this endeavor remain undisclosed.
In addition to the academic facilities, accommodation for students will also be built, primarily targeting populations from Pacific Island countries, including Fiji. Lal mentioned that several partners have committed to constructing these living spaces, highlighting the collaboration with Oceania Accommodation and Offices, a property investment company involved in the project.
The OIT is backed by the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service as well as the Fijian government, which is focused on equipping citizens with skills that bolster both personal success and national economic growth. While the institute currently operates a single center in Nadi, plans are in place to expand its reach to other key regions across Fiji.
The newly established institute recently celebrated its inaugural graduation ceremony, marking an important milestone in its journey. Lal expressed optimism that this promising beginning will lead to even greater achievements in the future. The establishment of OIT and its forthcoming expansion holds great promise for enhancing educational opportunities and supporting economic development in the region.
