New Pipelines to Transform Suva's Water Supply: What You Need to Know!

New Pipelines to Transform Suva’s Water Supply: What You Need to Know!

A new contractor has been appointed to construct pipelines connecting the upcoming Viria Water Treatment Plant to residential areas such as Tamavua, Sakoca, and Khalsa in Suva. Public Works Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau announced that details regarding the new contractor will be revealed soon.

The minister emphasized the necessity of this project as current measures, including the installation of clarifiers at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant, are only temporary solutions. The Tamavua facility lacks the capacity to cater to the growing demands of Suva, which is why the Viria facility was developed by the previous government. Tuisawau also noted, “We need to continue that work by connecting the pipelines from (Viria) onto the high-level areas,” reinforcing the importance of these infrastructure developments.

In addition to the pipeline construction, the newly appointed contractor will also oversee improvements in Waimanu and Colo-i-Suva. This encompasses the installation of reservoirs and pumping stations, aimed at alleviating the water accessibility challenges currently faced by residents.

This initiative aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to address water supply issues across Suva by enhancing the overall infrastructure. Recent projects, such as the installation of additional pumps at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant and plans for a new compact treatment facility, reflect a commitment to sustainable long-term solutions.

Overall, this project represents a positive step toward improving water distribution and reliability for the communities affected by ongoing water supply challenges. As construction progresses, there is a growing optimism among the residents of Suva for a more secure and dependable water supply system.
