A new era of economic empowerment for iTaukei landowners has started with the inauguration of Taukei Plaza Dua, the iTaukei Land Trust Board’s (TLTB) first commercially acquired property. This historic event, celebrated in Lautoka, marks the introduction of TLTB’s new commercial arm, Qelemaroroi Holdings Pte Ltd.

The initiative signifies TLTB’s strategic entry into commercial development, aiming to improve the economic realities for iTaukei landowners through investments in property and business ventures. In his remarks, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka emphasized the significance of this moment, stating that future generations would recognize it as a pivotal point in the journey of the iTaukei people.

“Today, we are not merely opening a building; we are unveiling a vision,” said TLTB CEO Solomone Nata, reflecting on the potential impact of the plaza on the active participation of landowners in generating wealth.

Notably, this initiative is a product of recent political changes, with Prime Minister Rabuka creating pathways for landowner benefits. The TLTB North-West team has moved into new office space at the plaza, which features 12 offices available for rent. Furthermore, plans are underway for a second building, Taukei Plaza Rua, expected to open soon in Namaka, Nadi.

Reflecting on the past, Nata mentioned that the last property purchased by TLTB was in 1948, highlighting the significance of this development. The broader strategy aligns with TLTB’s goal to enhance economic engagement among iTaukei landowners, with opportunities for participation in sectors such as investment advisory and property management.

Overall, this initiative serves as a beacon of hope, fostering an environment for economic collaboration and growth among iTaukei landowners. The TLTB’s new commercial strategies, combined with the announcement of their holding company, present a collaborative framework that may ensure long-term economic sustainability and empowerment for the community.
