A new 30-seater catamaran, named Gosal Cruisers, is set to be launched at the Grand Eastern Hotel in Labasa, aimed at enhancing local tourism and commerce on Fiji’s second-largest island, Vanua Levu. Owned by Charan Jeath Singh, who is both a prominent business leader and the Sugar Minister, this vessel hails from China and is the first of its kind in the region.
Mr. Singh expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating it would create opportunities for local residents to offer food and cultural items, thereby boosting their financial wellbeing. Describing the catamaran as an early Christmas gift for the community, he announced that its services would begin on December 20, just in time for the festive season.
The $1 million vessel is designed to serve as a day cruise option, operating daily from the Grand Eastern Hotel jetty at 9:30 AM. Passengers will enjoy sightseeing and cultural exchanges at various locations, including Kia, Mali, Druadrua, Vorovoro, Savusavu, and nearby islands. The catamaran, which can accommodate a crew of three, boasts a cruising speed of approximately 35 knots.
This initiative has the potential to significantly uplift local tourism and trade, offering residents a new way to engage with visitors and showcase their unique culture.
