The Miss Fiji Pageant has firmly rebuffed accusations of racism and discrimination, affirming its dedication to diversity, inclusivity, and respect for all participants. During a recent media briefing, pageant Director Ana Tuiketei expressed surprise at the claims of racially motivated behavior, highlighting that no formal complaints had been filed through the organization’s established grievance procedures since the pageant’s inception.

Tuiketei pointed out that a grievance redress mechanism policy was clearly communicated to all contestants and chaperones on November 30, providing a structured process for reporting issues such as bullying, racism, or misconduct. She stated, “To date, there has been no grievance recorded or incident reported regarding racism or bullying,” adding that all allegations would be taken seriously and investigated if officially submitted.

The officials from Miss Fiji also stressed the organization’s commitment to diversity, noting that both the pageant and its leadership feature contestants from a myriad of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Ailava Samuels, Fiji’s current representative at the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant, embodies this multicultural spirit with her Samoan and Fijian heritage.

Additionally, the organization pointed out past contestants of mixed backgrounds, including Indo-Fijian participants, as evidence of its inclusive approach. “We embrace diversity, respect cultures and traditions, and place human rights and humanity at the center of everything we do,” the officials asserted.

In light of the public concerns, the Miss Fiji Pageant is open to receiving formal complaints supported by substantiating evidence. They are also willing to facilitate dialogue, including mediation or roundtable discussions, for those who wish to pursue the matter further. The organization remains committed to maintaining transparency, accountability, and the welfare of its contestants as preparations continue for Fiji’s participation in the upcoming Miss Pacific Islands Pageant.

This proactive stance showcases the Miss Fiji Pageant’s determination to address concerns transparently while celebrating the rich diversity of the contestants as a significant strength.
