Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has removed Lynda Tabuya from her position as the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection due to concerns regarding her conduct and the standards expected of government ministers. This decision follows the emergence of a private video concerning Tabuya’s actions.

The dismissal, effective immediately under Section 92(3)(b) of the Constitution, allows Tabuya to retain her seat in Parliament. In her place, Sashi Kiran, the Assistant Women’s Minister, has been appointed to lead the ministry, pending her official swearing-in by the President.

This change in leadership reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining accountability and integrity among its ministers, ensuring they adhere to the expected conduct that is vital for public trust.

In summary, this development highlights the importance of accountability within governmental roles and serves as a reminder of the ethical standards leaders are expected to uphold. Sashi Kiran’s upcoming appointment may bring renewed focus to the initiatives surrounding women’s and children’s welfare in the country, fostering positive change and continued progress in these vital areas of social protection.
