Music training not only enhances memory and coordination but also sharpens auditory skills and supports emotional growth. Recently, 66 students from the Valelevu Youth Training Centre celebrated their achievements by graduating with a Certificate Level 4 in Music Performance. This milestone marks the end of their rigorous training under the centre’s National Youth Band Program, where they learned both musical theory and practical applications.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports has established the centre to offer a second chance for students who have left formal education but possess a passion and talent for music. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro, the chief guest at the graduation ceremony, praised the graduates for their commitment and dedication. He encouraged them to harness their musical skills to contribute positively to Fiji’s cultural and economic landscape.
Radrodro reaffirmed the Coalition Government’s focus on providing alternative educational and employment pathways, highlighting the significant role music plays in the nation’s identity and development. He also recognized the achievements of previous graduates who have succeeded in national institutions and the entertainment sector, inspiring the current batch to follow their dreams with enthusiasm.
During the event, graduates showcased their musical talents, playing several pieces for an appreciative audience. Acknowledge for their dedication, select students were also awarded for their hard work and persistence.
The ceremony serves not only as a celebration of individual accomplishment but also as a testament to the positive impact of music education on the community. As these young musicians embark on their journeys, they carry with them the potential to transform their passion into a resource for cultural enrichment and economic growth in Fiji.
This graduation event is a hopeful reminder of the importance of alternative educational opportunities that cater to diverse talents and interests.
