Levuka Town has marked a significant milestone for the residents of Ovalau Island and the Lomaiviti Group with the inauguration of its new municipal market. The official opening took place last Friday, led by Minister for Housing and Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa.

This new market aims to serve communities from Ovalau, Moturiki, and the encompassing Lomaiviti Group. Minister Nalumisa expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who played a role in the market’s construction, emphasizing its importance as a bustling hub that will create economic opportunities for local vendors.

To further support the market’s operations, the government has provided a nine-ton truck specifically for fish deliveries and other essential services in the area, with a total investment of $180,000 toward this initiative. Nalumisa encouraged the community to take ownership of the facility, highlighting that they now have one of the finest markets in Fiji. He urged residents to take pride in their town, support each other, and seize the opportunities this new market brings.

This development not only facilitates better trade and income for local vendors but also fosters community spirit and pride. The establishment of the market is a hopeful sign of progress and economic resilience for the people of Ovalau and the Lomaiviti Group.

Overall, the new market stands as a testament to community collaboration and government support, potentially revitalizing the local economy while strengthening community ties.
