Severe Heavy Rain Warning for Fiji Group with Possible Flash Floods and Thunderstorms

Weather Alert: The Rainy Chronicles of Fiji

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre, Nadi, at 7:30 pm on April 17, 2025

Alright folks, grab your umbrellas and put on your galoshes because a HEAVY RAIN WARNING is in play for the entire Fiji group! You might want to think twice before you head out; swimming in flip-flops is not as easy as they make it look in ads.

What’s happening? Well, an active trough of low pressure has decided to throw a rain party that just won’t end! It’s currently lounging over Fiji, but don’t worry, it plans to move eastward by Sunday — hopefully to a less rain-loving crowd.

Forecast until midnight tomorrow: Expect periods of rain, which might be heavy enough to encourage your house plants to grow into jungles, especially over the Yasawa, Mamanuca, Viti Levu, Kadavu, and nearby smaller islands. Though the rain will ease down to showers tomorrow, we recommend that you don’t challenge Mother Nature and try to predict exactly when she’ll take that pause; she has a mind of her own!

In case you’re wondering about flash floods, yes, localized heavy downpours could make a splash in low-lying areas, so you might want to avoid the inflatable pool idea for the weekend. Winds will be moderately fresh from the north, making for some good kite-flying weather — if your kite happens to be a raincoat. Seas are looking moderate to rough, so think twice before planning a leisurely day on the water!

Looking ahead to Saturday: We hear that rain will gradually trim back to showers across most areas, which we can all agree sounds like a welcome change.

Here’s the local scoop for you:

**Navua / Suva / Nausori**: Periods of rain (heavy at times, naturally) and a few thunderous vocal performances from the skies. Showers should ease from later tomorrow, so hang in there!

**Sigatoka/Coral Coast**: More rain — surprise! — but it will ease to showers tomorrow. Keep an eye out for those isolated thunderstorms trying to crash the party.

**Nadi / Lautoka / Ba**: Expect periods of rain and a few booming thunderstorms. Showers will eventually make an appearance tomorrow, taking over where the rain left off.

**Tavua/Rakiraki**: Same song, different verse. Heavy periods of rain with thunderstorms, but rest assured, showers are on the way soon!

**Natadradave/Korovou**: More rain! But good news — showers are making their grand entrance tomorrow.

**Yasawa/Mamanuca group**: You guessed it—still raining! But showers will pop in tomorrow.

**Labasa**: Occasional rain that might mislead you into thinking about paddle boats is here, and it will become more frequent soon.

**Savusavu**: Just like Labasa, expect occasional rain with a chance of thunder.

**Lau/Lomaiviti**: Rinse and repeat — occasional rain until it eases into showers.

**Kadavu**: Dive right into those heavy periods of rain, but don’t worry; showers are waiting in the wings!

**Rotuma**: A moist wind is strutting around, and showers, probably jealous of the beach time, are on the forecast too.

Plan accordingly, everyone! We might be dealing with a bit of rain chaos, but hey, it’s all part of the tropical charm! Just don’t forget your raincoat; even if it feels like a wet blanket, at least you’ll stay dry underneath!
