Jessica Simpson Returns to Acting on Hulu in Ryan Murphy’s All’s Fair After 15-Year Hiatus

Jessica Simpson is reveling in her professional comeback after a 15-year break dedicated to motherhood and building her fashion empire. The actress and singer made her return to performing on stage in March after more than a decade away and is now set to appear in Ryan Murphy’s new legal drama, “All’s Fair,” coming to Hulu on November 4.

At the premiere of “All’s Fair” in Los Angeles, Simpson expressed her excitement, saying, “I feel like at 45, I’m born again. It’s like a resurrection of everything entertainment for me and it’s so nice.” This sentiment reflects a renewed energy in her career after focusing on her three children during her hiatus. She shares daughters Maxwell Drew and Birdie Mae, and son Ace Knute, with ex-husband Eric Johnson.

Simpson acknowledged that she never intended to take such a long break from the spotlight. “I didn’t want it to be that long,” she said, explaining that as she welcomed another child, her priority shifted to motherhood and expanding her successful Jessica Simpson Collection, worth billions.

Her offer to join “All’s Fair” came from Ryan Murphy, a figure known for pioneering inclusive storytelling in Hollywood. The show centers on a group of female divorce attorneys navigating the challenges of a predominantly male profession. Simpson noted her surprise at the casting, saying, “I’m used to getting funny, comedic, dumb blonde roles, but this is very opposite of anything that I’ve ever done.” She characterized her role as emotionally vulnerable, requiring her to tap into deeper feelings than she previously depicted on screen.

Filming also pushed her boundaries, with a few “very naughty scenes” opposite Rick Springfield, which added to the complexity of her character. Simpson shared how directing offered a supportive environment, thanks to the guidance of director Anthony Hemingway.

During the premiere, Simpson also celebrated her co-stars, including Naomi Watts and Kim Kardashian, describing their confidence as motivating. “Everybody had this quiet confidence about them that really just dropped me into the scene,” she said.

Feeling reinvigorated, Simpson expressed her eagerness to continue acting, stating, “It was great. It was an amazing experience. I’m craving doing it again.” This journey not only marks her return to television but also illustrates a broader trend of women reclaiming their voices and roles in Hollywood as they age, offering a hopeful narrative for future generations of female artists.
