The Inspiring Youth Christmas on the Park Program, held last month, served as a beacon of hope and joy for street-dwelling youths in Suva. Organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, this event aimed to bring the festive spirit of Christmas to those often overlooked during the holiday season, ensuring they experienced memorable moments filled with care and warmth.
The Ministry emphasized that the initiative extended beyond just celebration; it was about affirming to the youths that they are seen, valued, and supported by the community. Collaborating with partners, volunteers, and local groups, the Ministry provided essential care, shared nutritious meals, and created a safe environment that encapsulates the essence of Christmas.
With over 45 street-dwelling youths identified in Suva, the program is part of a broader strategy called Balata Vou Tale Na Lawa (Casting the Net Anew), which focuses on practical solutions such as rehabilitation, education, and reintegration. The Ministry reassured the participating youths that they are not alone in their journey, highlighting a collective effort to foster a society where every young person can feel safe, valued, and empowered to reach their potentials.
The Ministry expressed immense gratitude to everyone involved in making this meaningful event possible, underscoring the importance of community support in uplifting vulnerable groups and fostering hope.
This initiative showcases the positive impact that community efforts can have on the lives of young people, demonstrating the spirit of unity and compassion during the festive season. Such programs not only provide immediate relief but also lay the groundwork for long-term support and empowerment of at-risk youth in society.
