A heavy rain alert remains in force for the entire Fiji group as an active trough of low pressure brings cloud, showers and periods of rain. The trough is currently affecting western areas and is expected to gradually spread over the rest of the country tomorrow, while a northerly wind flow continues to prevail.
Occasional rain with isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls is expected across the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, the interior and western half of Viti Levu (including Ra‑Rakiraki, Tavua‑Ba‑Lautoka, Nadi‑Sigatoka to Navua, and the interiors of Ba‑Ra‑Nadroga/Navosa‑Serua‑Namosi), Kadavu and the southern Lau group. Elsewhere there will be cloudy periods with showers and afternoon or evening thunderstorms, with showers becoming more frequent and turning to rain from tomorrow over most places. Isolated heavy falls are expected and localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low‑lying and flood‑prone areas.
Winds will be moderate to fresh from the north to northwest, with gusty conditions likely during heavy falls. Seas are expected to be moderate to rough. Mariners and those with activities on exposed shores should be prepared for choppy conditions and stronger gusts while heavy rain and thunderstorms occur. Rotuma remains under a moderate east to northeast wind flow, with a weak trough expected to affect the island from the east later tomorrow; Rotuma should see cloudy periods with some showers, with occasional showers developing later.
The outlook for Wednesday is for occasional rain, heavy at times, with a few thunderstorms over most places. Localised heavy falls may again cause flash flooding of low‑lying and flood‑prone areas. Northerly winds will remain moderate to fresh, gusty in heavier showers, and seas are expected to stay moderate to rough.
