The redevelopment of Govind Park in Ba is set to reach its completion by April, as confirmed by Moshim Khan, the special administrator of the Ba Town Council. The second phase of the project, which has an investment of $8.3 million, is being executed by contractors Western Builders Ltd and Heritage Fiji, with construction having started in August of the previous year.
Khan noted that the enhancements to Govind Park will increase its seating capacity to 9,000, exclusive of the embankment, which will be addressed in a future phase. He acknowledged that adverse weather conditions have caused some delays in progress, but expressed optimism that the redevelopment will be wrapped up by mid-April.
Upon the project’s completion, the Town Council has plans to develop a market arcade, underlining their commitment to advancing significant projects without being bogged down by multiple initiatives simultaneously. The community has been looking forward to the park’s revitalization since 2016.
The upgraded Govind Park is not only expected to serve as a venue for local events but will also welcome international competitions, such as the IDC, as indicated by the Fiji Football Association, aiming to host the event this year in Ba. This development is promising for both the park and local sports culture, opening up new avenues for rugby and soccer events once the new facilities are operational.
In addition to the restoration of Govind Park, future projects are planned, including a mall by Ratsun City and developments by RB Patel, contingent upon resolving tenant issues.
The transformation of Govind Park signifies a hopeful revitalization for the Ba community, aiming to restore a crucial sports venue and to foster social engagement and economic growth within the region. This redevelopment could well be a turning point for the local community, creating new opportunities for sports and commerce alike.
