Alex Konrote, a member of the Fiji Golf Club, highlighted the significance of encouraging youth participation in golf during the recent Signz & Design Stableford golf competition held in Vatuwaqa. The event, which saw a total of 44 participants, included categories for both women and youth, creating an inclusive atmosphere for the sport.
Konrote expressed gratitude to the event sponsors and noted the critical role regular sponsorship plays in sustaining the club’s weekly competitions. Despite the challenges posed by weather conditions, club members eagerly anticipate their Saturday games, underscoring their passion for golf.
Addressing common misconceptions, Konrote emphasized that golf doesn’t have to be an expensive sport for young people. He encouraged parents to consider the support systems and equipment provided by the club, proposing that golf can be accessible for aspiring young athletes. “It’s a beautiful game with no age limit,” he stated, inviting children and their families to join the Fiji Golf Club and partake in the joys of the sport.
This call to action aligns with the ongoing efforts of the Fiji Golf Club to enhance visibility and interest in golf among youth—an effort previously echoed by Shaun Hwang, the club’s vice-president.
