The Fiji Cancer Society’s Community Palliative Care Program has received a significant boost, thanks to a generous donation of $65,625 from NewWorld IGA. This funding was raised during the company’s Pinktober Campaign, which aims to enhance cancer awareness and support initiatives that fight the disease.

The Community Palliative Care Program focuses on training community health workers in the Nadi medical area, enabling them to provide high-quality care to patients with life-limiting conditions such as cancer and other non-communicable diseases. Fiji Cancer Society Finance Chair Atonio Takala emphasized the importance of palliative care, noting that the training includes essential skills like pain management, emotional support, and effective communication.

Takala mentioned that the program has already completed two phases in the central division and Nadroga/Navosa province, training a total of 191 participants. He underscored the necessity of offering compassionate care to patients during their final stages of life.

Over the past decade, New World IGA has contributed more than $360,000 to the Fiji Cancer Society, reinforcing its commitment to supporting cancer awareness and patient care.

This investment in training and support reflects a broader commitment to enhance the quality of life for cancer patients and their families, fostering an environment where community outreach and education can flourish. The collaborative efforts between organizations like NewWorld IGA and the Fiji Cancer Society exemplify the positive impact community engagement can have in the fight against cancer, reinforcing hope among patients and caregivers alike.
