Fuel Prices Drop: Relief for Fijian Consumers Amidst Economic Fluctuations

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced a decrease in fuel and LPG prices effective today. This reduction provides much-needed relief for consumers, allowing them to manage their expenses more effectively amidst fluctuating economic conditions.

According to the FCCC, the price of unleaded fuel is reduced from $2.76 to $2.68 per litre, while premix fuel will now cost $2.51, down from $2.58. Diesel prices will drop from $2.38 to $2.31 per litre, and kerosene will be priced at $1.78 per litre. In terms of LPG, a 4.5 kg cylinder will now cost $15.31, a decrease from $15.61, and the price for a 12 kg cylinder is reduced to $40.84 from $41.63. Bulk gas will now be priced at $3.15 per kg, and autogas will be available at $2.21 per litre.

These adjustments are the result of an ongoing review conducted by the FCCC based on international market conditions and fuel import prices from the previous month. The FCCC has clarified that these prices represent maximum wholesale and retail prices, with the flexibility for wholesalers and retailers to set lower prices if they choose to do so.

The FCCC will continue to monitor compliance through inspections in the coming weeks, encouraging consumers to report any unfair trading practices they might encounter in relation to these new pricing structures.

This price drop is a positive development for households, especially as many have been struggling with the rising cost of living. With fuel and LPG prices now lower, consumers can redirect their finances towards other essential needs, boosting local economic resilience.

Overall, this is an encouraging signal that the FCCC is working to ensure fair pricing and consumer protection in the energy sector while navigating the complexities of global market influences.
