At just 18 years old, Ms. Nanovo has been primarily raised by her father, Ratu Sela Vunakasi Nanovo, following their mother’s departure when she was young. While many of her classmates benefitted from strong family support, she has been dedicated to balancing her educational pursuits with family obligations. Every day, she has taken on household chores and prepared lunches for herself and her five siblings before heading to school.
Expressing her heartfelt gratitude, Ms. Nanovo dedicated her dux trophy to her father, acknowledging his unwavering commitment to their family’s education and well-being. “This trophy symbolizes his sacrifices and hard work. I aspire to repay him by ensuring he enjoys a comfortable life,” she explained.
Ratu Sela, who works in the construction sector, has been both a father and a nurturing figure to his children. The family resides in Natabua, conveniently close to the school. Ms. Nanovo shared that although their journey has been challenging, her father’s encouragement and perseverance have instilled in her the motivation to excel academically.
Through their shared hardships, she stated, “He always encourages us to endure because good things lie ahead of us.” Ms. Nanovo credits her success to divine strength, which has helped her effectively manage her time and prioritize her studies.
Looking ahead, she plans to enroll in a law degree at the University of Fiji next year, with the ambition of building a brighter future for herself and her family.
