Tourism Fiji, in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, has announced that the much-anticipated Tourism Super Week will occur from May 5 to May 9. This event aims to roll out a series of capacity-building programs specifically designed to empower stakeholders in the tourism sector, with a special focus on micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Salaseini Daunabuna, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry, underscored the significance of partnerships and initiatives like the Tourism Super Week, emphasizing collective responsibility in promoting Fiji’s tourism. She remarked, “In many ways, we are all ambassadors of Fiji — and tourism by extension.” The initiative aims to unify the industry while enhancing the art of tour guiding across various platforms.
Brent Hill, CEO of Tourism Fiji, expressed excitement about the upcoming event, noting that it would equip MSMEs with critical knowledge and practical skills necessary for business improvement. The program will consist of expert-led workshops and networking sessions that serve as invaluable resources for tourism enterprises, helping them align with global trends and ensure sustained growth.
A highlight of this year’s Tourism Super Week will be a two-day training session for local tour guides, designed to amplify their skills and enhance visitor experiences, thereby maintaining competitiveness in the global market.
Tourism Fiji has indicated that this annual event will include a mixture of expert-led workshops, engaging panel discussions, and hands-on training designed to furnish MSMEs with immediately applicable tools. Gaining insights into the latest tourism trends and sharpening practical skills will be crucial for their sustained success.
The enthusiasm surrounding this initiative reflects broader strategies to bolster Fiji’s tourism landscape and support local businesses. Initiatives like the Pilot Tourism Micro and Small Enterprise Fund signify ongoing commitment towards establishing a resilient tourism sector that addresses financial access challenges faced by smaller enterprises.
With a robust framework for empowering local businesses and dedication to sustainable practices, Fiji’s tourism industry appears to be on the brink of enduring success. This collaborative effort, focused on education and development, promises to nurture an enriched tourism sector that can thrive even amidst global challenges. Such initiatives not only promote economic growth but also contribute positively to the cultural and community vitality of Fiji.
