Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka heralded 2025 as a pivotal year for Fiji’s tourism sector during the opening of the Fiji Tourism Exchange (FTE) 2025 at the Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort in Denarau. Gavoka noted that visitor arrivals had reached one million, propelled by expanded air connectivity through Fiji Airways, which is enhancing access to markets in Asia and North America.
Gavoka emphasized the immense value each exhibitor brings to the table, whether they are from small tour companies or luxury resorts, stating that these stakeholders are vital ambassadors of Fijian hospitality. He highlighted that innovation in tourism offerings doesn’t solely rely on the introduction of new hotels. Even minor enhancements, like adding five new rooms, incorporating electric vehicles into fleets, or introducing fresh experiences into tour itineraries, contribute significantly to Fiji’s tourism narrative.
This announcement follows Gavoka’s previous assertions at the Fiji Tourism Convention 2024, where he reported that over 640,000 visitors had arrived in Fiji within the first eight months of the year. With recent visitor numbers for July and August exceeding the target average of 90,000, the country is set to surpass its goal of welcoming over one million tourists.
In his remarks, Gavoka reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering a sustainable tourism framework and the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving these objectives. He called upon international buyers and guests to view their engagement in Fiji as a collaborative partnership vital to the nation’s growth story.
As Fiji gears up to welcome the world, Gavoka’s message resonates with a spirit of optimism and resilience, positioning Fiji not just as a travel destination but as a beacon of hope and sustainability in the tourism landscape.
