Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has announced a new initiative aimed at rewarding school teachers in Fiji who have dedicated over 20 years to the profession, specifically those earning less than $22,000. This initiative was communicated during the induction of prefects at Nasinu Secondary School last week.
Mr. Radrodro detailed that the rewards will be implemented in three phases, prioritizing those with over 30 years of service, followed by those with 25 to 29 years, and finally, those with 20 to 24 years of service. He expressed the government’s recognition of teachers’ commitment and reiterated that the ministry will continue to invest in this essential workforce.
The rollout is expected to commence in several months, pending verification and consultations with relevant stakeholders. In addition to this new measure, he noted the upcoming financial adjustments for 103 assistant principals currently on Band H, with an upgrade to their salary step, scheduled for this month. Furthermore, 296 teachers who have recently upgraded their qualifications will also receive a financial boost along the lines of the Teacher Remuneration Policy. The total financial outlay for these various initiatives is projected to be approximately $2.3 million in the current financial year.
