Rising Taekwondo star Lolohea Fouana Navuga Naitasi has set off for Korea to join a three-month training program aimed at enhancing her skills and preparing her for upcoming competitions. The 18-year-old from Daku, Nakelo in Tailevu, is currently ranked 14th in the world after her Olympic debut at the Paris Games where she represented Fiji in Taekwondo.

Expressing her enthusiasm, Lolohea stated, “This is my first time being part of this Korean Training Program, and I’m hoping to grasp as many skills and lessons as I can from professional athletes during training and competition.” Since being introduced to Taekwondo in 2022 during a physical education class at Suva Grammar School, Lolohea has dedicated herself to the sport, overcoming numerous challenges along the way.

Reflecting on her preparations and growth, Lolohea noted that while the journey has not always been smooth—featuring some unforeseen obstacles—the experiences have only strengthened her resolve. “These trials have only made me stronger and more determined,” she said. One of her key motivations for participating in this program is to not only enhance her own performance but also to share her newfound skills with fellow students in Fiji upon her return.

Expressing gratitude towards her coach Sang Hyun Ra and her family, Lolohea emphasized the importance of support in her journey. She believes that the skills learned in Korea will serve as a crucial steppingstone for her participation in more significant tournaments, positioning her for greater successes in her athletic career.

Encouraging fellow young athletes, she offered simple yet profound advice: “Keep moving forward and never give up.”

Lolohea’s journey is a testament to the dedication and commitment of emerging athletes from Fiji, particularly in the realm of Taekwondo, which has seen increased participation and enthusiasm in recent years. Her efforts not only reflect her personal aspirations but also foster hope for a brighter, more competitive future for Fijian athletes on the international stage.
