In a landmark move aimed at enhancing healthcare access for Fijians, Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) Hospitals has significantly reduced its general practitioner (GP) consultation fees from $11.50 to $7.50, effective immediately. This initiative is a direct response to the escalating need for affordable medical care in Fiji.
PSH, which features a 130-bed facility located in Nadi and Walu Bay, Suva, is committed to easing the out-of-pocket expenses that many face when seeking medical treatment. The decision is the result of constructive discussions with the hospital’s newly appointed board members, including representatives from the Great Council of Chiefs and various faith-based organizations.
Founder and CEO Parvish Kumar emphasized the importance of this reduction, stating that financial barriers often prevent many Fijians from accessing necessary medical care. He noted, “We have been engaging with community leaders and grassroots organizations and received feedback that cost remains a barrier for many Fijians seeking medical care. This reduction in GP consultation fees is part of our commitment to making healthcare more accessible.”
Despite a modern reputation for advanced medical services, including open-heart surgeries and brain tumor operations, PSH remains dedicated to providing essential primary healthcare through its skilled general practitioners. To further assist patients dealing with financial constraints, the hospital has also launched the “Get Well Now, Pay Later” initiative, designed to support those in need of specialized care and advanced treatments.
Operating 24/7, the Nadi facility provides a range of services, including outpatient, inpatient, and emergency care to meet the growing demand for high-quality healthcare.
This initiative by PSH resonates with a broader movement in Fiji’s healthcare sector, as other establishments, such as Oceania Hospitals in Suva, are also working to lower medical service costs. These cooperative efforts underline a shared dedication across the healthcare community to enhance patient care and support.
With PSH’s unwavering focus on affordability and patient-centric services, there is a hopeful outlook for the health future of all Fijians. These initiatives not only improve access to quality healthcare but also foster community well-being, paving the way for a healthier society overall.
