The Gymnastics Federation of Fiji recently hosted a successful Aerobic Gymnastics Showcase at the Northern Club in Lautoka, culminating in an exciting exhibition of talent from 22 young gymnasts representing two clubs: Flight Club from Lautoka and Aero Gym Fiji from Suva. This event served as a preparation platform for the upcoming National Clubs Carnival set to take place in Gold Coast, Australia, later this September.
Maria Alvarado, a Board Director of the Gymnastics Federation of Fiji, emphasized the showcase’s significance, noting that athletes competed in various categories, including Levels 3, 4, and 5, along with Youth International and Senior International divisions. A highlight of the event was the introduction of Lauren Pilla, Fiji’s new Youth International athlete, who is gearing up to represent the nation at the prestigious Suzuki World Cup next year.
The showcase also featured remarkable performances, particularly that of Senior International athlete Robyn Eastgate, whose captivating routine drew inspiration from her recent participation at the Suzuki World Cup.
Adding a touch of expertise to the event were special guests Coach Deborah Greenbaum, Australia’s National Coach for Youth and Junior Aerobic Gymnastics, along with her mother, Pearl Rozenberg, the Australian Judging Coordinator. They provided valuable feedback to athletes, helping refine their routines and contribute to their development.
Alvarado expressed gratitude towards sponsors for their support, notably recognizing Punjas, which provided gift hampers for participants, and the Northern Club for hosting the event for the second consecutive year. She remarked that this showcase serves as a vital stepping stone for Fijian gymnasts as they build their confidence and elevate their skills in preparation for the international stage.
