The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has announced the appointment of its new Commissioner, Barbara Malimali, who is prepared to take the lead in this role. Malimali has stepped down from her previous position as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, extending her best wishes to the Commission as she transitions to her new responsibilities.

Malimali is a seasoned criminal lawyer and was appointed by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, following a recommendation from the Judicial Services Commission and in consultation with the Attorney-General’s Office. Her term commenced on the previous day and will span three years.

Notably, she becomes the first female Commissioner in the history of FICAC, succeeding former Commissioner Rashmi Aslam, who resigned in September 2023. In her statements following her appointment, Malimali expressed her commitment to fulfilling her duties as outlined by the law, despite the challenges that may arise. She is eager to begin her work as Commissioner of FICAC.
