Fiji’s highly anticipated secondary schools sporting event, the Coca-Cola Games, is officially on the horizon, with the launch of the Powerade National Torch Relay marking the start of the countdown. This year holds special significance as it will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Games, set to take place in 2025, celebrating a long-standing partnership between Coca-Cola Fiji and the Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association (FSSAA).

The Powerade National Torch Relay kicked off yesterday at the CCEP Fiji manufacturing site in Laucala Beach Estate. Over the next five weeks, the relay will journey across various locations, including Ovalau, Viti Levu, and Vanua Levu, passing through two major cities and eleven towns before arriving at its final destination, the HFC Bank Stadium on April 24. At that time, 130 students from 50 selected secondary schools will participate in this vibrant tradition. The excitement will ramp up as MGM High School and Marist Brothers High School lead the final leg of the relay.

Scheduled for April 24-26, the Coca-Cola Games is not just a competition but a celebration that enhances community engagement, promotes camaraderie, and showcases athletic excellence among schools. The event has a rich history of remarkable performances and draws considerable enthusiasm from spectators and supporters, highlighting the talents of young athletes.

The relay will culminate in a grand celebration with the lighting of the Coca-Cola Games Cauldron, a symbol of Fiji’s largest and longest-running school sports event. Organizers from CCEP Fiji expressed gratitude towards partners like CK’s Mega Bargain, Digicel, Fiji Gas, Fiji Water, and Pacific Energy, whose support is crucial for the success of the Powerade National Torch Relay.

Echoing sentiments from past major sporting events, such as the Fiji Finals, which have received live broadcast coverage, the Coca-Cola Games is poised to enhance the visibility of young talent and foster school spirit. This event emphasizes a collective commitment to youth sports in Fiji, reinforcing connections among athletes, schools, and communities.

Fiji’s sports scene continues to evolve with each passing year, providing a hopeful platform for extraordinary talent and spirited competition among the nation’s youth. This commitment to nurturing young athletes will undoubtedly yield inspiring stories and moments in the years to come.
