Fiji’s Amateur Boxing head coach, Cam Todd, has announced plans to send boxers to various international competitions, including the prestigious 2025 World Boxing Championship in Liverpool, England. Todd expressed his intention to select a diverse team of junior, youth, and elite boxers for an event in the United States scheduled for April next year. He aims to take at least eight boxers to this significant international event.
Only the top boxers will qualify for the World Boxing Championship in 2025, with the focus on a strong representation of elite athletes – specifically the best six male boxers and at least one female competitor for the upcoming men’s and women’s world championships in England next September.
In addition to the preparations for the championship, Todd is also eager to send a team to New Zealand and hopes to welcome Australian teams to Fiji in March, along with possibly six more international teams. Meanwhile, local boxers will maintain their training with clubs and participate in events like the Sukuna Bowl and the Golden Gloves.
This initiative not only emphasizes Fiji’s commitment to developing boxing talent but also enhances the sport’s visibility on the global stage. With ongoing engagement and support from international competitions, Fiji’s boxers are set to gain valuable experience, paving the way for future successes.
This development is an encouraging sign for boxing in Fiji, showing that the sport is building momentum and establishing a path to greater recognition in the international arena. The focus on both training and competition underscores a robust strategy that could yield impressive results for Fijian athletes in the future.
