The Fijian Drua women’s rugby team is set to enter the upcoming Super W competition with an impressive roster that features several prominent players. Notably, former Fijiana 7s captain Rusila Nagasau has secured her place in the lineup, as evidenced by her appearance in training videos shared on social media from workouts at Sand Dunes in Sigatoka last December. Alongside her, former teammates Alowesi Nakoci and Raijeli Daveua, who is poised to captain the Fijiana 7s at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, are also anticipated to join the Drua.

These athletes played pivotal roles in Fiji’s historic bronze medal victory at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, heightening the excitement surrounding their return to competitive rugby. The team will also welcome back Timaima Ravisa, an accomplished player experienced in sevens, union, and league, who previously played for Stade Rennais Rugby in France. Ravisa’s return is particularly significant after her key contributions to the Drua’s Super W title win in 2022.

Additionally, Kolora Lomani is rejoining the Drua following her time with the Brumbies women. Local talents Alfreda Fisher, Isabella Koi, Carletta Yee, and Josifini Naihamu from Namosi have also been seen training with the squad, enhancing the team’s depth and regional representation.

The official squad announcement is slated for January 29, in accordance with competition regulations. Fans can expect the season to kick off against the Waratahs on February 28 in Sydney. Following that, the Drua will host matches against the Reds and Brumbies at Churchill Park in Lautoka, before facing the Western Force away in Perth.

This season promises to be an exciting journey for the Fijian Drua women, as they blend the experience of Olympians with the energy of emerging local talents. The team is set to make a noteworthy impact in the Super W competition, contributing to the growing popularity and support for women’s rugby in Fiji and the broader Pacific region. As they prepare for what looks to be an inspiring season, their commitment to showcasing their skills and elevating women’s rugby is commendable.
