Weather Update
Greetings from the National Weather Forecasting Centre, where we’re brewing up a storm of information for you this fine Wednesday morning, February 4th, 2026!
So, what’s the scoop? Well, we have a rather sluggish trough of low pressure hanging over the southern regions like an indecisive friend at a buffet. Meanwhile, a more ambitious trough is sauntering in from the northeast, packing its bags with clouds, showers, and the possibility of rain to keep us all on our toes from today until Friday night.
Now, earlier today, we should brace ourselves for the possibility of occasional showers and a few thunderstorms, particularly in the Lomaiviti and Lau groups. The Sigatoka-Korolevu, Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nasinu, Yasawa, Mamanuca, Northern Bua, and Macuata areas may see some energetic weather antics, including heavy falls. Everywhere else? Well, we might just get a break with mostly fine weather and some cheeky afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms.
But wait, there’s more! Showers are expected to become more frequent in the northern parts as the day unfolds. So if you’re out and about, make sure your umbrella is ready to dance! Just like a great movie plot, we’re anticipating afternoon thunderstorms that could lead to a bit of flash flooding in low-lying areas.
As for the winds, they’ll be coming from the south to southwest at a moderate pace, and seas will maintain a moderate demeanor—no wild waves today.
Looking ahead to Thursday, it appears we’re going to get a splash of reality with occasional rains, heavy at times, and a few more thunderstorms to keep things interesting. Localized heavy falls could cause some flash flooding, so don’t forget to channel your inner water buffalo and tread wisely through those puddles!
Now, let’s take a look at the more localized forecasts:
– **Navua/Suva/Nausori**: Expect cloudy periods with a chance of showers and some thunderstorms mixed in. Min: 24, Max: 33.
