Weather Update: The Sunday Shower Showdown
As we kick off this Sunday, December 21, 2025, you might want to grab your umbrella – or perhaps a life raft, depending on where you’re located! A not-so-shy trough of low pressure has decided to crash the party over the Fiji group, bringing along an entourage of clouds and showers. And let’s not forget the moist easterly winds that have set up camp over the country.
Now for the forecast until midnight tonight: Expect occasional showers that may turn a bit dramatic with isolated heavy downpours and thunderstorms over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and the nearby small islands, as well as parts of eastern Viti Levu (including Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, and more), Lau, and Lomaiviti groups. It’s like a weather rollercoaster, and everyone is invited!
For our friends elsewhere, expect a mix of cloudy periods with potential for some afternoon or evening showers and, yes, a bit of that thunderous clattering we call thunderstorms. Isolated heavy falls are also on the guest list, so watch out for those! And if you’re in a low-lying area, it’s best to have a plan in case flash flooding comes to visit your neighborhood.
Winds will be moderate to fresh, possibly gusty when those heavy showers and thunderstorms decide to show off their strength. If you’re planning on heading to the ocean, gear up for moderate to rough seas – and remember, no surfing the couch with this weather!
Looking ahead to Monday: The clouds are sticking around, particularly over eastern Viti Levu (with the same suspects from before), Lau, Lomaiviti, Cakaudrove, and Southern Bua. Just like today, there’s a chance for afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms elsewhere, but a bit of sunshine could peek through to cheer you up.

In summary, it’s a soggy, stormy day across most parts of Fiji, so pack your waterproof jacket and have some fun with those stormy shenanigans!
