Fiji Weather Forecast: Showers and Possible Thunderstorms with Heavy Falls Expected

Weather Update from the Forecasting Wizards at the National Weather Centre Nadi

Issued at 3:30 PM on Tuesday, the 4th of March, 2025

Hold on to your umbrellas, folks! A low-pressure trough has decided to set up camp just east of Fiji, and it seems to be in no rush to leave. Meanwhile, the Northern and Eastern divisions are being gently caressed by moist northwesterly winds, while the southwesterly breeze is giving the rest of us a bit of a nudge.

Now, let’s talk forecast for the Fijian archipelago until midnight tomorrow: Expect occasional showers with the potential for some isolated thunderstorms over the Northern Division, Yasawa, and Lau groups. And just to keep it interesting, isolated heavy falls could be on the agenda—so watch out for potential flash flooding in low-lying areas, because who doesn’t love a surprise water feature?

Looking for clearer skies? Well, you might enjoy brief moments of sunshine in Serua-Namosi, Sigatoka, Nadi-Lautoka-Ba, Tavua-Rakiraki, and a few other charming spots, but don’t get too cozy—the clouds are sneaking back in with some showers in the afternoon or evening.

As for Thursday’s forecast, brace yourself for cloudy periods, ominous shadowy shapes, and the chance of afternoon thunderstorms over the Eastern half of Viti Levu. So, if you’ve been waiting for an excuse to take cover, this is it! Winds will be moderate to fresh, and seas will dance between moderate and rough, so maybe avoid taking a dip unless you fancy a wild ride.

Let’s break it down per location:

For Navua / Suva / Nausori: Expect fine weather with a side of afternoon or evening showers. Showers will be developing tomorrow, so plan accordingly—maybe with a fabulous raincoat?

For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Enjoy the sunny spells with brief showers popping up. Don’t let them rain on your parade tomorrow as more showers make their grand entrance.

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Fine with brief showers trying to steal the spotlight. Expect a bit more hydration from the sky starting tomorrow.

For Tavua/Rakiraki: Enjoy some cloudy periods and sprinkling showers. Tomorrow could see showers crashing the party as well.

For Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Enjoy some fine moments with just a sprinkling of showers. Those pesky clouds are coming tomorrow to join the fun, though!

For Labasa: Expect those occasional showers and possibly some surprising thunderstorms. Isolated heavy falls might turn the low-lying areas into mini swimming pools—just don’t forget your floaties!

For Savusavu: Keep those umbrellas handy; it’s going to rain showers and possible thunderstorms. We wouldn’t want the low-lying areas to feel left out!

For Lau/Lomaiviti: Showers and possible thunderstorms are happy to visit the Lau group. Lomaiviti is just a bit more laid-back, but brief showers will still join in tomorrow.

For Kadavu: Expect a fine day with a splash of brief showers. Tomorrow, more of those cheeky showers will make an appearance.

For Rotuma: It’s raining and rumbling with an active convergence zone affecting you. Occasional rain and a few thunderstorms are the main act, accompanied by breezy northwesterly winds.

So there you have it, folks! The weather promises a mixed bag, perfect for those who enjoy a little surprise in their day. Stay dry and keep that sense of humor handy!
