Weather Update: Buckle Up, It’s Going to Be a Splashy Ride!

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 7:30 PM on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

Attention, water lovers! A heavy rain warning is in effect for the Western Division, Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Kadavu, nearby small islands, and, wait for it… the rest of the Fiji group is now joining the wet parade! If you were hoping for a sunny weekend, I’m afraid you’ll have to swap your beach towel for a paddle.

Flash flooding? Oh, we’ve got that too! If you’re in the Western Division, from Sigatoka to Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki, keep an eye on your inflatable pool; it might just end up in the living room.

Also, hold onto your hats because a strong wind warning is blowing through for the same regions! Expect gusts that could have your garden gnome flying up to the neighbor’s yard. Those northwesterly winds will be lively, reaching average speeds of 45km/h and gusting up to a whopping 75km/h. Now’s the time to check if your umbrella can handle an F1 race!

A pesky trough of low pressure is hanging around over Fiji, and it’s a tad grumpy with cloud and showers. Plus, our friend, Category 2 Tropical Cyclone URMIL, is stirring things up just southwest of Fiji. It’s like a weather soap opera, and we’re right in the middle of the drama!

Forecast for the night:

– Western Division (including Yasawa and Mamanuca groups) and Kadavu: Brace yourself for moderate to fresh winds that will turn strong! Think 45km/h average—perfect for flying a kite, if you don’t mind getting soaked.

– Macuata and Bua: Same song, different verse. Expect fresh winds and rough seas. That beach day? We’ll have to reschedule.

For the rest of Fiji: Get ready for rain, occasional heavy showers, and a few thunderbolt surprises. Plan on a good cuddle with your Netflix series!

On to the Monday outlook:

Western Division and the islands: Expect rain that could turn your neighborhood into a water park, just with fewer synchronized swimmers. Don’t forget the thunderstorms—we wouldn’t want you to miss out on nature’s fireworks display!

For Navua/Suva/Nausori: Rain, heavy at times, will dance in and out of your day. Trust us; you’ll need that umbrella.

And for everyone else: More rainy antics with thunderstorms possibly leading to flash flooding! So, keep your shoes handy, because you might be wading through puddles.

Now, let’s break it down for various locations:

– **Natadradave/Korovou**: Rain, thunderstorms, and a high of 30. Stay dry, or at least try!

– **Sigatoka/Coral Coast**: Forest winds and rain galore! It’s a washout with a chance to cool off—tomorrow’s high is again 30.

– **Nadi/Lautoka/Ba**: Buckle up for gusty winds and rain. The universe has chosen you to be the main character in this weather saga!

– **Savusavu & Taveuni**: Rain, thunderstorms, and swooping winds. Don’t forget to wear your best water shoes for 30 degrees of fun!

Join us as we embrace this wet adventure! And remember, sunshine will return one day—until then, let’s splash in the puddles!
