Weather Alert Update
Issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 12:15pm on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A Heavy Rain Alert has been officially placed for Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and their tiny island cousins, as well as the central and northern Lau group.
What’s cooking in the clouds? A trough of low pressure seems to be taking a lazy stroll over the southern and eastern parts of Fiji, and another similar system, decked out in clouds and random showers, is sneaking in from the northeast. It looks like this weather is hosting a rainy reunion right through Saturday.
Here’s the forecast until midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:
Expect some occasional showers, maybe a few dramatic thunderstorms, and isolated heavy downpours over the Lomaiviti and Lau group. For Sigatoka, Korolevu, Serua, Namosi, Navua, Suva, Nasinu, Yasawa, and Mamanuca group, it’ll be a cloudy affair with showers and some more theatrics in the form of thunder – hold on to your hats! Don’t let the fine weather fool you, as the rest of the places might enjoy mostly clear skies, with just a dash of afternoon or evening showers and the occasional thunder show.
As the day progresses, showers will kick it up a notch and transform into proper rain across Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and the nearby island crew, along with Lau and Lomaiviti group. Be wary – those heavy thunderstorms could flood low-lying areas faster than you can say “what’s for dinner?”
Winds will be moderate from the west to southwest, occasionally flexing their muscles. Seas will be moderately manageable, except when they decide to throw a tantrum in squalls.
Friday’s Sneak Peek: Brace yourselves for more occasional rain, which might get heavy at times, and the usual thunderstorm show over most areas. That’s right, flash flooding is back on the menu for those low-lying spots!
