Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A HEAVY RAIN ALERT is in place for all of Fiji. So, if you’ve been thinking about washing your car or putting on your best shoes, now might not be the best time.

Situation: A shy little trough of low pressure has decided to drop by, bringing along an entourage of clouds and rain. It appears they’re planning an extended stay.

Forecast until midnight for the Fiji group: Expect a splash zone of occasional rain, with heavy downpours and a few energetic thunderstorms popping up to say hello. The rain is expected to ease over the western part of Viti Levu and should start to mellow out across the rest of Fiji later today. We’re looking at moderate to fresh winds that might make your hair look like you’ve just been in a wind tunnel, and seas that aren’t quite calm enough for a relaxing float.

Outlook for Tuesday: More of that delightful rain and a few claps of thunder over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and the nearby smaller islands, as well as the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Elsewhere, expect some afternoon or evening showers, possibly accompanied by some flashy thunderstorm action. Winds will be moderately northeastern, while the seas will be choppy enough to keep your sea legs in practice.

Specific areas:
For Navua / Suva / Nausori: Get ready for occasional rain, heavy at times—perfect for a dramatic scene in a movie about the world’s worst picnic. This rain may ease to showers later today with temperatures hanging out between 23 to 29 degrees.

For Natadradave/Korovou, Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Similar weather is forecast—lots of raindrops on a windowpane and maybe some thunder to add ambiance. Think temperatures in the cozy realm of 23 to 29 degrees.

For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Mostly cloudy today with brief showers to keep you on your toes. Expect it to be a toasty day with a max of 31 degrees, but remember, 22 is the min, which is just chilly enough to complain about.

For Tavua/Rakiraki, Yasawa/Mamanuca: Occasional rain which may be heavy at times—perfect weather for contemplating life indoors with snacks. Think of temperatures ranging from 23 to 31 degrees.

For Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, Lau and Lomaiviti group, and Kadavu: You guessed it, folks! Occasional rain and the excitement of thunderstorms are on deck. The min will be around 23 degrees, and the max will reach a high of about 31-32 degrees, just hot enough for a steamy cup of tea while you’re cozy indoors.

And over on Rotuma: It’s a slightly different story with some fine weather sprinkled with brief showers, just to keep things interesting. You’ll find the day warming up to a nice 31 degrees.

So grab your raincoat and perhaps an inflatable raft—it’s going to be another wet and wild day in Fiji!
