All schools in Fiji will remain closed tomorrow due to heavy rainfall and extensive flooding, as reported by authorities. The Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, made the announcement following consultations with the National Disaster Risk Management Office and assessments from District Education Offices regarding the prevailing conditions.

This decision is primarily aimed at ensuring the safety of children and school communities during this adverse weather situation. School heads and teachers are encouraged to maintain communication with their Management Committees and District Education Offices for the latest updates while ensuring that school premises are secured.

In light of the flooding, parents and guardians are strongly advised to keep their children at home, minimize unnecessary travel, and avoid crossing flooded roads, creeks, or rivers. Authorities are also warning against swimming in rivers or any flood-affected areas due to safety concerns.

The Ministry of Education is actively monitoring the situation and is committed to providing updates regarding the reopening of schools as conditions evolve. The Minister has stressed that the wellbeing of children and school communities is the Ministry’s foremost priority during this challenging time.
