Investment Fiji is expanding its focus beyond traditional markets, actively seeking opportunities arising from increasing demand in Asia, North and Central America, as well as South America. At the recent Asia Pacific Hotel Industry Conference & Exhibition (AHICE) in Nadi, board chairperson Jenny Seeto outlined the organization’s commitment to fostering a sustainable and inclusive tourism sector that benefits local communities and protects the environment.
Investment Fiji is undergoing a digital transformation, leveraging national strategies and recent infrastructure improvements, including the installation of the Google Bulikula and Tabua subsea cables, to position Fiji as a digital hub in the Pacific region. Seeto emphasized the importance of a 10-year strategic framework aimed at reinforcing sustainability, resilience, and inclusivity in every investment initiative.
One highlight is the Na Vualiku Project in Northern Fiji, supported by a substantial $US200 million investment from the World Bank aimed at developing essential infrastructure such as roads, reliable power, water systems, and improved waste management and airport access.
Furthermore, Investment Fiji is tapping into various tourism sectors, including sports, medical, and adventure tourism, to attract foreign investment and stimulate economic growth. The government is also offering appealing incentive packages for the tourism sector, which are designed to encourage further investment activities.
These initiatives echo sentiments shared by other industry leaders, including those expressed by Nick Thompson from Jones Lang LaSalle, affirming Fiji’s growing attractiveness as an investment destination. There is a prevailing sense of optimism about the future of Fiji’s tourism market as it continues to rebound, with record visitor arrivals and a strong focus on sustainable development strategies.
As Fiji positions itself for significant growth in tourism and investment, the outlook remains positive, promising not only economic benefits but also a commitment to preserving the nation’s unique cultural and natural heritage, ensuring that both locals and visitors can thrive together.
