Finance Minister Esrom Immanuel has called for additional consultations regarding tariff reviews, emphasizing the resolution of governance challenges at the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC). He has confirmed that Cecil Browne will remain as the Chair of the FCCC, while Joel Abraham has stepped down from his role. According to Minister Immanuel, Abraham’s departure was a voluntary decision aimed at allowing him to focus on other priorities, although he will still offer his expertise for tariff reviews and regulatory issues when needed.

The FCCC has received various requests for tariff reviews from service providers, including Energy Fiji Limited. In light of this, the Minister has directed the FCCC to enhance stakeholder consultations and public awareness regarding the electricity tariff application before making any decisions.

The Commission is expected to present a comprehensive report on the electricity tariff review by Monday. Minister Immanuel highlighted that any consideration of tariff adjustments must maintain a careful balance between the regulator’s responsibilities, the integrity of the regulatory process, and the genuine impact on consumers. He reiterated that these factors are crucial to ensuring fair, transparent, and inclusive outcomes that benefit the people of Fiji.

This initiative reflects a proactive approach to regulatory governance while prioritizing consumer interests, signaling a commitment to transparency and community involvement in critical decision-making processes.
