The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) has announced the appointment of Pita Tutuvalu Waqanivalu as its new chief financial officer, with his official start date scheduled for February 2026. Waqanivalu comes to the role with over ten years of substantial leadership experience in both public and private financial management sectors.

In his previous positions, Waqanivalu has served as Manager Finance at the Public Rental Board and the iTaukei Land Trust Board, and he held the role of Acting Chief Financial Officer at the Water Authority of Fiji. His professional history is highlighted by notable achievements in enhancing financial performance, fortifying governance frameworks, and adeptly guiding organizations through intricate operational challenges and growth scenarios.

Waqanivalu’s international experience further enriches his profile, having worked across various regions including Jamaica, Singapore, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Nauru, Tonga, and Samoa. He is a chartered accountant and holds membership in professional bodies like CPA Australia, as well as the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Institute of Internal Auditors. His academic credentials include a Master’s Degree in Commerce from the University of the South Pacific, complemented by postgraduate certifications and executive training in financial management and corporate governance.

In his new capacity, Waqanivalu will be responsible for overseeing FRU’s financial operations, reinforcing governance systems, promoting sustainable growth, and ensuring fiscal discipline aligns with the union’s strategic long-term objectives. He expressed enthusiasm for his appointment, stating that he is honored to join Fiji Rugby during a pivotal time for the sport. “With a strong commitment to prudent financial management, I look forward to contributing my experience and values to help foster sustainable and resilient growth that supports the development of rugby at all levels in Fiji,” he noted.
