The Government Shipping Services (GSS) vessel, MLC Vunilagi, set sail for Yasawa this past Monday, as announced by the Ministry of Transport. This vessel will service several key locations, including Yalobi, Viwa, Nacula, Navotua, Naisisili, Bukama, and Yasawa-i-Rara, as part of the government’s franchise scheme.
In related updates for the Lomaiviti region, the second franchise trip is scheduled from January 20 to January 22, with Interlink’s MV Ohana making stops in Qarani, Sawaieke, Nawaikama, Lovu, and Nacavanadi in Gau, before proceeding to Natauloa, Lawaki, and Waitoga in Nairai. The journey will conclude at Nakasava in Batiki.
Meanwhile, Goundar Shipping Limited’s Lomaiviti Princess XII is set to serve the lower Southern Lau from January 22 to January 26, making port calls at Kabara, Fulaga, Ogea, Vatoa, and Ono-i-Lau. This is followed by the second Northern Lau franchise trip, scheduled from January 27 to January 30, where the Lomaiviti Princess VII will dock at Cicia, Tuvuca, Cikobia, Vanuabalavu, and Yacata.
Additionally, another upper Southern Lau trip will commence on January 27 through February 1, with the Lomaiviti Princess XII visiting Vanuavatu, Nayau, Lakeba, Oneata, Komo, Moce, and Namuka-i-Lau. The MLC Liahona II will head to Northeast Vanua Levu on January 31, stopping at Malau, Cawaro, Nukusa, Nukudamu, Nabouono, Vunikodi, Cikobia, Naqelelevu, Rabi, Saqani, Lakeba, Tawake, Wainiika, and Yasawa.
Plans for the Beqa, Yanuca, and Vatulele franchise trips, including a second run for Yasayasa Moala and Kadavu, remain pending confirmation. These services are crucial for enhancing connectivity and supporting the transportation needs of various islands in the region.
