Fiji Men in Court for Deceptive Financial Schemes

Two men are set to appear before the Nasinu Magistrates Court today after being charged by the Fiji Police Mpaisa Task Force with separate counts of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception.

The first individual, a 36-year-old resident of Wailea in Vatuwaqa, is accused of deceiving his victim on May 21, 2023, by claiming that he had mistakenly sent a One Time Pin (OTP) and requested the victim to resend the details to him. In a separate incident, another 36-year-old man from Koronivia is charged with dishonestly acquiring $190 from a victim on November 17, 2023. The investigation found that the victim had seen a Facebook advertisement for a car rental, made a deposit of the specified amount to the provided contact number, but the accused failed to deliver the promised service after using the funds.
