Weather Update

Issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 5:30am on Saturday, December 13, 2025

Attention, Fiji dwellers! Grab your umbrellas and maybe even a kayak, because a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is in full swing across the entire Fiji group. This is not just a drizzle; we’re talking about rain so substantial you might want to start considering ducks as a viable mode of transportation.

What’s the scoop? There’s a persistent trough of low pressure hanging around like that guest who won’t leave the party. This zone of clouds and rain isn’t just a quick visit; it’s here to stick around at least until next week, ready to soak up whatever plans you may have made.

Forecast for today (up to midnight):

Expect occasional rain, complete with occasional heavy moments that will make you question if your roof could use some upgrades. The northern regions of Vanua Levu—and the northern and western parts of Viti Levu—are particularly prone to these Monsoon-style surprises, so be prepared for a few thunderstorms that probably can’t help but throw a party of their own!

Everywhere else? You can expect a delightful mix of rain and thunder, particularly in the afternoons or evenings when the clouds are feeling particularly generous. Just remember, persistent heavy rain could result in some flash flooding of our beloved low-lying areas. So, keep your boots handy!

As for the winds, they’ll be moderate, coming from the north to northeast, and fresh at times. If you’re heading out to sea, we recommend checking your life jacket, as the seas will be notably moderate to rough.

Looking ahead to Sunday: The forecast continues its trend of occasional rain with a few thunderstorms—because why change a winning formula? Keep your rain gear close at hand, as we’re expecting persistent heavy falls that might just turn your backyard into a swimming pool.
