Senior officials from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services are kicking off the year with an important three-day National Strategic Planning Workshop at the Pearl Resort in Pacific Harbour. This workshop is designed to lay the groundwork for the future of Fiji’s health system.

During the opening session, Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Penioni Ravunawa, emphasized the significance of the discussions as the Ministry seeks to refine its inaugural Strategic Plan. He stated that the practical experiences of senior managers from hospitals, health centers, and local communities across the nation are invaluable for crafting a plan that is not only actionable but also tailored to meet the specific needs of the population.

The Strategic Plan is envisioned to act as a crucial framework guiding the Ministry’s policy decisions, influencing the allocation of limited resources, and determining the delivery of health services across Fiji. In his address, Ravunawa pointed out that the plan will also address significant challenges facing the healthcare system, such as the rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases, emerging health threats, and continuing pressures on health personnel and infrastructure.

Ravunawa underscored the necessity of thorough and informed planning to ensure that all Fijians receive sustainable, equitable, and high-quality health services, both now and in the future. This proactive approach reflects the Ministry’s commitment to improving health outcomes and supports a hopeful vision for the nation’s healthcare landscape.
