A flood warning is currently in effect for low-lying and flood-prone regions near the Nakauvadra River in Rakiraki Town as well as areas adjacent to and downstream of the Naseyani at Yaqara River, Tavua River, and the flood plains of the Ba, Nadi, and Nawaka rivers. The warning was issued as of 12:30 PM today due to conditions exacerbated by an active trough of low pressure, which is bringing rain bands and strong northwesterly winds, increasing the likelihood of river flooding.

In addition to the warning, a flood alert is in place for areas adjacent to and downstream of the Tuva River in Nadroga. Authorities have reported that water levels are fluctuating above alert and warning levels in Rakiraki, Tavua, and Ba, raising concerns for residents and local businesses in these vulnerable locations.

As the situation evolves, tide levels are projected to peak later today, with high tide in Lautoka expected to reach 1.91 meters at 6:08 PM, and in Suva at 1.7 meters at 6:39 PM. Officials are cautioning that the impending high tide may worsen flooding conditions in low-lying areas, urging community members to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

The ongoing weather patterns indicate that preparedness and responsive actions will be crucial for mitigating the effects of these flooding events. Local authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, providing updates and guidance to the community.
