The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has informed its customers about ongoing water supply issues caused by heavy rainfall, which has led to flooding and increased turbidity levels at the Waimanu and Savura raw water sources. This situation is affecting production levels across the region.

In addition to these challenges, a third-party contractor inadvertently damaged a DN150 water main earlier in the morning, further diminishing reservoir levels and delaying the restoration process. The isolation of the damaged pipeline was completed by 7:00 AM, and repair efforts are expected to be finished by this afternoon.

WAF cautions that residents in the Lami to Tamavua areas might experience low water pressure or temporary supply disruptions as the system stabilizes. However, the Authority is optimistic about restoring normal water supply shortly.

This situation is reflective of previous alerts issued by WAF regarding potential disruptions stemming from high turbidity conditions at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant due to similar adverse weather. In earlier communications, WAF had emphasized the necessity for residents to store sufficient water for essential uses, limit non-essential consumption, and ensure that any stored water is kept clean and covered.

WAF is proactively monitoring the situation and is committed to mitigating the impacts on local water supply. By informing the community and urging preparedness, WAF is laying the groundwork for a coordinated response to the weather challenges ahead.

In summary, while residents may face interruptions to their water supply due to the heavy rains and a damaged water main, WAF’s commitment to addressing these issues provides a measure of reassurance. Community cooperation and individual preparedness are crucial in overcoming these challenges, ensuring that the health and safety of all residents remain a priority.
