Former Fiji 7s representative Viliame Naikausa has secured a three-month contract with Hyundai Glovis, a team in the South Korea Super Rugby League based in Incheon. This opportunity marks a significant milestone in Naikausa’s rugby career, as he constantly seeks avenues to advance his skills and experiences in the sport.
Naikausa expressed his gratitude for local competitions that led to this scouting opportunity, which arose during the Mataso 7s in Lautoka last year. He is excited about the chance to train in a new environment, embrace the challenge of learning new languages, and interact with notable players like Samu Kerevi and Israel Folau. “I can’t wait for our season to start in Korea,” he stated.
Currently, Naikausa and his team are engaged in training in Japan while anticipating the commencement of the league. Looking ahead, he remains optimistic about the future, stating he would always be available to represent his country if the opportunity presents itself again.
This move represents not just a significant step for Naikausa but also highlights the increasing opportunities for Pacific island players in international leagues, showcasing their talents on a larger stage. It offers hope that the experiences gained will further enrich their careers and broaden their impact in the world of rugby.
