The Fiji 7s development team is fully prepared as they gear up for the Oceania Rugby Sevens Championship, kicking off tomorrow. The squad has received a boost with the arrival of three players: Manueli Maisamoa, Lasaro Bogisa, and Sakiusa Saqila, who recently returned from a victorious stint with the Sri Lions at the Emirates Dubai Sevens, where they claimed the Men’s International Open Cup title by defeating Speranza with a score of 36-17.
Head Coach Viliame Satala expressed enthusiasm for the team’s readiness, noting, “It’s great to be joined by Saqila, Maisamoa, and Lasaro who came back from Dubai and have trained well with the boys.” He acknowledged the challenging weather conditions but praised the players for their ability to acclimate and prepare effectively.
With their opening match against Nauru, Satala emphasized the importance of treating every match with the utmost respect, regardless of the opponent’s skill level. “We are treating this tournament with the respect we would do at the Series, and we will play to that standard,” he stated.
The Fiji 7s development team’s first match is scheduled against Nauru at 11:34 AM, followed by another game against Tuvalu at 7:16 PM.
This championship presents a promising opportunity for Fiji’s emerging talent to shine on a regional stage, fostering the growth of rugby in the region and igniting the passion for the sport among fans and aspiring players alike. With the team’s recent success and strong preparation, there is a hopeful outlook for their performance in the tournament.
