Fiji’s 7s Head Coach Osea Kolinisau is focused on guiding his team to achieve higher placements on the global stage as the HSBC SVNS Series approaches its restart. The Fiji 7s team recently celebrated a gold medal victory at the Dubai 7s, but they faced challenges, securing only a bronze medal in Cape Town. Kolinisau noted that the team struggled towards the end of the latter tournament, emphasizing the need for improvement in their performance during fatigue.

“We want to get our processes right when we are getting tired,” Kolinisau remarked. He highlighted that in the final thirty seconds of the Cape Town match, their usual strategies faltered due to a lack of communication and poor spacing on the field.

Expressing optimism, Kolinisau welcomed the team back to training for their first session of the year, acknowledging that they need to shake off some rust. “It wasn’t full-on contact. It was just about getting our processes back,” he explained.

Looking ahead, the team is gearing up for the Coral Coast Sevens next week and is setting their sights on the next stop of the SVNS Series in Perth from January 24-26.

As the Fiji 7s team prepares, there’s a sense of hope and determination in their approach to refine their strategies and enhance their performance, with the goal of maximizing their success in upcoming competitions. The focus on improving communication and teamwork could lead to stronger results as they navigate through their challenging schedule.
