Competing for Glory: Schools Unite in Thrilling Inter-House Event

Excitement Soars at John Wesley College’s Annual Inter-House Competition!

Yesterday, the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva buzzed with excitement as 200 athletes came together for the annual inter-house competition hosted by John Wesley College. The event brought together participants from five schools: Kalabu Secondary School, Jeremiah Raibevu College, Willam Cross College, and Ahmadiyya Muslim College, showcasing a spirited environment filled with competition and camaraderie.

Logavatu Tavo, head of the physical education department at John Wesley College, highlighted the school’s objective of maximizing student participation as a precursor to the forthcoming Suva zone one competition. He expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, “The atmosphere at the inter-house competition is really great; all the students really enjoyed the events.” This positive sentiment reflects the supportive community atmosphere cultivated at the competition.

The day was further enhanced by favorable weather, allowing students to fully engage in the various activities. Tavo noted, “We are also blessed with the weather; it’s not hot, so the students are out enjoying themselves,” which contributed significantly to the enjoyment and participation rates.

With significant events like the Coca-Cola Games and zone competitions on the horizon, Tavo spoke about the rigorous preparations underway. The school is determined to secure a gold medal in either competition, which he termed a “big accomplishment” for John Wesley College.

The event also received commendations for the active involvement of parents and teachers, whose support was instrumental in the smooth operation of the competition, reinforcing the essential community spirit that underpins such athletic events.

This inter-house competition reflects a broader trend within Fijian schools, where there is a growing focus on athletics. Schools are dedicating efforts not only to enhance competitive skills among students but also to foster teamwork and personal development, creating a dynamic athletic culture.

As John Wesley College and other institutions gear up for the upcoming competitions, there is a palpable sense of optimism regarding the future of sports in Fiji. With continued community support and a commitment to nurturing talent, the outlook for Fijian student-athletes remains bright, promising a rich and fulfilling sports experience.
