Two prominent Australian boxers have been officially announced for the South Pacific Boxing Promotions event scheduled for October 26 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi. The confirmation came from promoter Fred Chand, following the sanctioning of the matches by the International Boxing Organisation (IBO).
In the headline bout, IBO Asia Pacific and Fiji super welterweight champion Winston Hill will face the formidable Lachlan O’Shea, who is a former titleholder of the Australia National Boxing Federation’s Queensland title and has previously challenged Australia welterweight champion Joel Taylor in a closely contested fight.
Chand highlighted the caliber of the matchups, stating, “Both the IBO title fights will feature world-class boxers.”
In another key matchup, local fighter Sebastian ‘The Sniper’ Singh will aim to enhance his world ranking. Singh currently holds the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Asia Pacific cruiserweight title and is set to take on the unbeaten Sydney-based ‘King’ Tonga Tongotongo for the vacant IBO Asia Pacific cruiserweight title. Chand expressed gratitude toward Singh for seizing this opportunity, emphasizing the importance of competing against top-tier opponents.
According to Box Rec, Tongotonga boasts an impressive record, having won all eight of his professional bouts. Chand mentioned that the event will also feature undercard fights, with an official announcement to be released once approved by the Boxing Commission of Fiji.
SPBP director Mohammed Shameem also indicated plans to bring in well-known Australian ring announcer Steve Peios along with a professional boxing referee to enhance the event’s experience.
