Swire Shipping Fijian Drua matches will not be available on the FBC Sports Walesi app this season due to exclusive digital streaming rights held by Vodafone Fiji through its VodaPlay platform. This agreement, established earlier between the Fijian Drua and Vodafone, stipulates that all mobile and gadget streaming rights are exclusively with VodaPlay.
As a result, fans will no longer be able to stream Drua matches via the FBC Sports Walesi app. However, FBC Sports will continue broadcasting the matches on television through the Walesi set-top box, aligning with the current rights arrangement that restricts digital streaming to Vodafone’s platform.
This clarification comes in response to viewer inquiries following last week’s pre-season fixture, which could not be accessed on the FBC Sports Walesi app. In previous seasons, fans enjoyed the convenience of watching Drua games on both television and the Walesi app, but due to the new digital rights agreement, those wanting to view matches on mobile devices will now have to utilize VodaPlay.
Despite these changes, FBC Sports remains dedicated to providing television coverage of Drua matches while adhering to the existing broadcast rights structure. This focus on traditional television broadcasting underscores the evolving landscape of sports media in the region, as fans adapt to new viewing platforms. With Vodafone’s commitment to enhancing the digital experience for fans through VodaPlay, there is hope for a seamless transition that continues to prioritize the needs of fans and supports the growth of rugby in Fiji.
