Dreketi Rugby Club Secures Thrilling Victory at Rewa Union 10s Tournament!

Dreketi Rugby Club Celebrates Triumph and Eye Future Challenges

The Capital Insurance Dreketi Rugby Club has achieved a significant win at the recent Rewa Rugby Union 10s tournament held at Lokia Sports Ground in Nausori. The Dreketi team came out on top against Kuku, earning a cash prize of $1,000, while Kuku, the runners-up, received $500.

Manager Jone Ravai expressed great enthusiasm over the victory, noting that it provides a strong foundation for the team as they look forward to future competitions. Ravai pointed out that, although this triumph is a positive step, there are areas that require attention and improvement as they prepare for the upcoming transition to the 15s game next month. “This is a good start for us. We celebrate our victory here, but we recognize the need for growth before the full 15s season begins,” he remarked.

The tournament saw a successful turnout, with registrations closing on November 24 at a fee of $300, welcoming all affiliated clubs and local teams. Initially, the prize money offered was $600 for the winners and $400 for the runners-up; however, the amounts were later increased to reward the competing teams more generously.

This event serves as the inaugural competition of the Rewa Rugby Union’s calendar, signaling a hopeful and promising year for rugby in the region. The Union has encouraged players, coaches, and fans to rally around the sport and emphasized the importance of fostering a legacy of sportsmanship and striving for excellence both on and off the field.

The enthusiasm displayed during the tournament underscores the vibrant rugby culture in the community, setting an optimistic tone for the future of Rewa rugby as the Dreketi team gears up for the challenges of the 15s season ahead. Their commitment and focus will be crucial as they aim for continued success in their rugby journey.
